5 peddlers held in Awantipora, Kulgam: Police | KNO

Srinagar, May 22: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police on Monday have arrested five drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession. A police team from Police Post Toll Plaza headed by Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Kaigam Crossing, intercepted two suspicious individuals, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Upon the search, 315 grams of Charas like substance (in shape of Sticks) was recovered from their possession and were subsequently arrested. They have been identified as Mayser Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh resident of Ladermar, Arshid Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh resident of Gadibal Handwara Maidani Chugal Handwara. Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 119/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated. Moreover, a police team from Police Station Pampore headed by SHO Police Station Pampore DySP(P) Shravan Singh under the supervision of SDPO Pampore at a checkpoint established at Kadlabal Pampore, intercepted two suspicious individuals. During the search, the officers were able to recover 2.25 grams of Brown Sugar like substance and cash Rs 12,000 (proceeds of narcotic crime) from their possession and were subsequently arrested. They have been identified as Firdous Ahmad Mir@ Fir Codein son of Gh Hassan Mir resident of Kadlabal Pampore and Sahil Shafi Khan son of Mohd Shafi Khan resident of Dalgate Srinagar. Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 57/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore and investigation has been initiated. In Kulgam, a police team from Police Post Mirbazar while patrolling at Mirbazar noticed a suspicious person carrying a bag, who after noticing police party, tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, Charas powder like contraband substance weighing 518 grams filled in the said bag from his possession was recovered. He has been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Naikoo son of Sanaullah Naikoo resident of Kachpora and was subsequently arrested. Accordingly, a case has been registered under FIR No. 94/2025 under section 8/20 NDPS act at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation is underway, police said. “The community is urged to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their areas. Those involved in drug trafficking will be dealt strictly according to the law. Our continued actions against drug peddlers aim to reassure the Public that we are committed to keeping our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” the statement added—(KNO)
